Theory class
You’ll go through all of the chapters from the First Aid and O2 manuals. You’ll learn how to perform CPR and how to safely provide oxygen, an essential life saving component related to diving injuries. You’ll also learn how to use an AED device, another life saving device if someone’s heart is beating ineffectively.

First aid workshop
Time to keep going! You’ll go through rescue scenarios and simulate saving someone’s life and you’ll also learn how to deal with everything from minor burns and scratches, to dehydration and hypothermia. After the class, you’ll need to complete the homework in order to continue with the course the next day.

Pool session
Today is the start of your Master Rescue course. You’ll go to the pool where you’ll learn all the skills to become a competent rescue diver. You’ll practice rescue scenarios and some techniques and simulations to learn how to help effectively in different diving incident scenarios.

Theory class
You’ll work through sections Physiology, Physics and Rescue with your instructor. You’ll discuss how to spot someone who’s panicking, for example, and talk through all possible responses to a variety of problems. After that, you’ll go through some homework about everything you’ve learned. Note: Morning and afternoon sessions can be alternated depending on the situation.

This session deals with essential equipment required for a rescue, both on the boat and in the water. You’ll learn the best way to search for a missing diver and essential knots you may be required to use.

First Dive
Once on our boat, you will set up your equipment before sitting down with your Instructor and reviewing all the in water rescue scenarios that you learned in the pool the previous day. This will include both surface and underwater responses. The first dive will be focused on ensuring you remember all of the necessary steps for each individual skill.

Second Dive
On this second dive we start to up the stress levels a little, to simulate more realistic conditions. Its important to remember that you are still learning, so little mistakes are bound to happen. But our seasoned Instructors are there to guide you through it, and ensure improvement across each dive.

Theory Class
We will review all the important theory to make sure you feel confident about it and then head to the beach, where your instructor will conduct a compass and search pattern workshop for you to have a dry run on it.

First Dive
We will start by running underwater search patterns, so you can practice missing buddy search procedures. We will then move into realistic rescue scenarios.

Second Dive
On this final boat trip, we are looking for all your learning to come together. You will be in charge of delegating to those around you to help deal with any rescue possibility that comes your way, from man overboard, to unresponsive diver under the water. All of your training up to this point will have you ready. Once we have our ‘victims’ back on the boat our job isn’t over. We need to be thinking about everything. Have we called EMS? Has somebody set up the O2? Can anybody around us offer any assistance? Or do we need to deal with this by ourselves? Our job as professional trainers, is to have you ready for every possible situation.

Let’s celebrate!
We’ll head back to La Bombona where we’ll complete our dive logs. After saving the lives of many, we will get you back to shore for the obligatory certification photo, and celebrations at the beachfront, sunset viewing bar! Congratulations on your master rescue diver certification!

INSIGHT FROM OUR DIVERS
For your first dive, all necessary equipment is provided by us. Just come prepared with swimwear and a sense of adventure!
The Rescue course takes 3 full days to complete. If you need to do the First Aid and O2 training, it will take an additional half day.
The minimum age for Open Water is 10 years old.
If you discover that the course isn’t aligning with your preferences midway, we’re flexible and can discuss options to ensure your experience suits your needs.
If you are not a swimmer, you can still dive! You can enrol in a Try Dive. You achieve no certification, but you still get to enjoy the experience under the watchful eye of one of our Instructor team. You must be a competent swimmer to enrol in the Master Rescue course.
A medical questionnaire is typically required. If you answer “yes” to any medical history questions, a physician’s approval may be necessary. Safety is paramount, and we ensure all divers are physically fit for the underwater experience.
